Why this DNC Has Concealed their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

This move from the Democratic National Committee to suppress the release regarding its own autopsy report concerning the 2024 election is stunning yet entirely predictable. Opposed to unpleasant candor, the party's leadership apparatus behaves more like a PR firm than a political organization focused on cultivating grassroots capacities for winning elections.

A Climate That Avoids Dissent

Unwilling to depart from the prevailing attitude demanding unity, the DNC has remained under the Biden-Harris shadow all through 2025. Publishing an official autopsy would have indicated that party leaders are interested to foster open debate about the missteps that paved the way for Donald Trump to return to the White House. Yet, the leadership is moving forward under the pretense that there's nothing to be learned from the stunning loss of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: is this good for winning elections? If not, it’s a distraction from what truly matters," an explanation which was presented for withholding the document.

Key Issues an Autopsy Could Have Explored

A genuine analysis worth its salt would confront certain uncomfortable matters. Among them are:

  • Voter Disenchantment: Failing to retain among millions of voters who voted for the party's candidate in 2020 was decisive in the close recent race.
  • A Decision to Seek Re-election: The determined insistence by a party leader to seek re-election, and a last-minute step-aside, is seen by some as denying the party's base the chance for open primaries.
  • Failing Core Democratic Voters: Amid rising costs, the campaign reportedly ceding to corporate donors' interests while failing to challenge the role of profit-seeking.
  • A Foreign Policy Impact: An unwillingness to shift a stance regarding a major international conflict allegedly caused losing many voters, especially among youth voters, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • Losing Youth Support: Research shows a significant decrease of Democratic support among the youth electorate.

A Record Avoiding Accountability

Choosing secrecy is consistent with a recurring tendency of sidestepping difficult realities. This mirrors a situation in which virtually every elected Democrat in Washington acquiesced to a sitting president's insistence on running for re-election until a disastrous campaign event forced a change.

Concurrently, large majorities of the electorate had been consistently telling surveyors that they did not want that candidate to run again.

Financial Concerns

A substantive report would also investigate matters regarding where money went, including the amounts were directed to party strategists as well as media firms during an electoral effort which expended an enormous war chest over a few months.

The Underlying Issue

Ultimately, the suppression surrounding this report is symptomatic of an allegiance to the existing power structure that oversaw an unsuccessful national race. The implication for ordinary supporters – including countless loyal volunteers – appears to be that they do not be trusted to understand what the insiders have learned from a report drawing from conversations with insiders.

A party unwilling to publicly examine its own failings is unlikely to break free from the cycle that proved so beneficial to the winning candidate.
