The Tottenham defender found the net twice as Tottenham extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and delivered Everton their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck on two occasions from set-pieces in the first half to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a final goal to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the scores a short while after the defender's opener, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a handful of chances, while Vicario made a series of excellent stops to ensure Tottenham went five matches on the road without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, advising the match official to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win elevates the manager's side up to third in the division, five points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

Everton remain in 14th position and sit half a dozen points clear of the drop zone.

After a drab weekday display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a only two shots on goal, Frank opted for the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after an hour on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender the Dutchman converted into an attacking force to be feared.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's two recognised strikers - had netted just a single goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were unable to contribute to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy evening on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having space and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional shot that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, too, failed to make an impact after replacing the starter in the second half.

It was not for a shortage of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who relentlessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Tottenham penalty area.
