Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Booers 'Not Genuine Fans'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Spurs and Raise Pressure on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed goalkeeper Vicario were informed later "those individuals cannot be true Spurs supporters" by boss Frank.

Spurs let in a pair of goals in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their tenth top-flight home loss of 2025.

But the main topic of discussion was Fulham's second goal when Vicario lost the ball well outside his box.

He came out to deal with a long ball and took the ball towards the touchline.

But, instead of booting it out of play, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

King laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the sideline recorded at 36.6 yards.

Moments afterwards when the ball went to Vicario once more, some Spurs fans booed him.

The team were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at the final whistle.

One of those jeering episodes really angered Frank.

"It came to my attention some of our supporters apparently jeered the situation and booed following, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Dane commented regarding the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"[They] cannot be true Spurs fans that act that way. Fair enough booing after the match, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are behind one another going forward."

Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute advantage prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second-half showing.

Former top-flight keeper Joe Hart stated that the second goal was "totally avoidable".

"I do appreciate the supporters' disappointment," Hart continued. "I know the role Vicario is performing. He's a excellent team player, he is a true leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"He was deeply involved in what ended up to be the winning goal."

'It's In the Game, I Can Handle It'

Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game

Italian international Vicario is in his 3rd season with Spurs.

He stated following the match that he had to accept the criticism.

"That score was a error of my own, I take accountability for that," he commented.

"My aim was to kick the ball long and I simply struck the ball in a poor manner. It was an even bigger mountain to climb."

He said being booed "is part of football".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "The team can't be affected by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It is on the team to stay more composed, to focus on our own performance. We are lacking in composure and calmness to reverse outcomes. Today is a poor defeat and it's hard to accept."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'

Despite Vicario's error, it was far from an simple score for Harry Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the next most distant Premier League score of the season – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard strike for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally also came on the same day.

Wilson said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty net to aim for.

Ten moments elapsed between Vicario exiting of his area and Wilson striking – which was five moments following the clearance.

"I felt like the keeper was away from the box for ages," Wilson remarked.

"It amazed me none of the defenders went back to the goal line. When none of them covered the goal, my interest sparked somewhat.

"Udogie slipped too, which gave me a little extra opportunity. Then it was all about trying to achieve the right connection and place it on target. I felt a positive sense, the moment it left my boot, that it was heading in."

'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Go Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager

Although the keeper's mistake dominated coverage, this was an overall poor day for Spurs to continue their home struggles.

This was their 10th home defeat of 2025 in the league, a joint club record along with nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

They still have home games against the manager's old side the Bees and champions the Reds to come before the close of the season.

Just a single of those wins have occurred after Frank took over from Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.

"When you're behind 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated Frank.

"During in a bad spell, all aspects appears to work against you too – the opening was a redirected attempt, the second is a mistake from the keeper.

"The outcome leaves us in a position where we have lost an additional game. Every game has a single story, this game we lost in the first six minutes.

"We just need to keep working. The later period was much better and with luck an aspect we can utilize to develop."

Tottenham have been defeated in four consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the top division.

And they are averaging nine point five attempts and three point two shots on target per game in the Premier League – their lowest rates on file in a single campaign (dating back to 2003-04).

Former Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He's got accept the stick," the pundit remarked. "He's taken a prestigious job at a huge football club with massive expectation. There is pressure and duty that accompanies that.

"The performances at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
