Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the party access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Questers and Planners tables.

Fans can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
